GPS Data Contest

This contest is now closed. is seeking to expand the coverage of the GPS content in our database. We believe that the combination of GPS data from actual activities, videos of those activities and standardized metadata is a powerful tool for discovery and sharing.

We are committed to providing this exchange of data free of charge.

If you are interested in participating in this concept, we invite you to enter this contest and begin to submit your rides, (or trail runs, ski expeditions, hiking adventures, etc.).

Rules and Guidelines

  1. Focus is on Mountain Biking, but all legitimate entries accepted.
  2. Winners are determined by the following point system, (maximum points per entry = 5).
    1. Each entry is worth one point
    2. For entries with an associated YouTube video there is a bonus of two points.
    3. For entries with total elevation gain of over 1,000 feet there is a bonus of one point.
    4. For entries with total distance of over 15 miles, there is a bonus of one point.
    5. If the ride has already been submitted by another contestant, the only points given will be for the YouTube video, (if submitted).
  3. GPS data must be from the actual activity and the submitter must be the owner of the data.
  4. Entries must include all required metadata – please don’t cut corners.
  5. Recommended video length is 2 – 10 minutes – this is a guideline and not a requirement.
  6. The contest is limited to the first 500 submittals.
  7. The GPS data is limited to the following US states: AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY.
  8. Submitter must have a valid US shipping address to win. (Address request will only be made of Winner and Runner-up).
  9. and reserve the right to modify or remove the submitted GPS data at their discretion.
  10. Video media must be hosted on YouTube and all copyright and use rules pertaining to YouTube usage are applicable.
  11. The video should correlate to the GPS data of the ride, but it may have been filmed on different dates and it does not need to cover the entirety of the ride.
  12. Contest closes on January 31, 2013, or at the time that 500 submittals have been received, whichever is first.
